AUGUST 1, 2013-A new Wenzel Strategies poll shows Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell leading his primary election challenger Matt Bevin by a massive margin and his likely General Election opponent by a solid margin. The statewide telephone survey shows McConnell winning 48% support in a race against Democrat Alison Grimes, who wins 40% backing. Another 12% were undecided in that race.
In a primary race against fellow Republican Matt Bevin, McConnell wins 59% support, compared to 20% for Bevin. One in five likely Republican Primary Election voters (21%) said they were undecided in that contest.
A prospective General Election ballot test between Democrat Grimes and Republican Bevin shows Bevin would narrowly defeat Grimes by a 35% to 30% margin, with 36% undecided in that contest.
